Would you like the opportunity to support Mary’s Meals’ work to feed hungry children in some of the world’s poorest countries and help give them a brighter future? We’re looking for church speakers to join our global movement, to help raise awareness about Mary’s Meals amongst church congregations in Lanarkshire. As a Church Speaker you can become part of our local volunteer group and share information and updates on the work of Mary’s Meals with church congregations, inspiring them to support our work. Volunteering is fulfilling and fun. By gifting your precious free time to Mary’s Meals, you can learn useful new skills, meet new people, and make a valuable contribution to our important work to reach more hungry children with life-changing meals in schools. We really need your help so we can keep our promise to the more than 2 million children who rely on a nutritious daily meal at school from Mary’s Meals, especially as Covid-19 has hit many developing countries so hard. WHAT ARE MARY'S MEALS UK LOOKING FOR? We are looking for confident speakers who are passionate about ending child hunger and ensuring that every child receives a daily meal in a place of education. Church speakers can help contribute to our work by sharing our story with local churches and faith groups, helping to inspire them to support us with prayers, donations or by becoming volunteers themselves. Church speakers can also choose to get involved in other activities, such as helping to organise fundraising events, distributing promotional materials or providing administrative support. This is a great opportunity to enhance your communication skills, while also making a huge impact on the lives of some of the world’s poorest children. We have great opportunities to put your skills to good use, and we will provide training and support to help you feel confident in your role. Please visit marysmeals.org.uk/volunteering, email [mailto:info@marysmeals.org%E2%80%AFor]info@marysmeals.org or call us on 0800 698 1212 to find out more.
The recently published book, Celtic Minded 5 (£15), is being sold from some parish stalls to allow around £5 of its proceeds to help local HCPT Lourdes funds (with 25% also going to the Celtic FC Foundation charity). Several chapters have a particularly Catholic and religious focus (schools, community, charity, ethos, heritage), including from Bishop John who reflects on Celtic’s Catholic roots and their meaning for the Church today. If you can take a box (26 copies) or can use contacts to help raise money to send kids and helpers to Lourdes this coming July and at Easter 2023, please contact Dr Joe Bradley, editor, at jmbradleyresearch@gmail.com

RELICS OF ST BERNADETTE TO VISIT SCOTLAND Carfin Grotto will host the relics of St Bernadette from 24th September until 2nd October 2022 – the only Scottish venue to receive the relics. This will coincide with the centenary of the Grotto on 2nd October. I am hopeful also that all the bishops of Scotland along with the Papal Nuncio will celebrate the centenary with us. I asked the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland to formally and officially declare the Grotto to be ‘The National Marian Shrine of Scotland’. They will do so at the centenary Mass.
