“This collection helps fund our Scottish Catholic Justice and Peace Commission, our Marriage Tribunal and our Catholic Parliamentary Office. Our Justice & Peace Commission campaigns for fairness for asylum seekers and refugees and for action against climate change and for the environment. It also networks with parishes and advises our Bishops on social justice, international peace and human rights. Its office supported by two employees. Our national Marriage Tribunal processes cases for annulment and is supported by two staff. Our Parliamentary Office works with MSPs, MPs and the wider political society to promote the influence of Catholic Social Teaching on our law and is supported by two staff. The 2022 this collection raised £9,904 (2021: £4,905) along with investment interest of £2,875 (2021: £3,362) (total income £12,779 (2021: £8,267). In 2022 our expenditure was £18,755 (2021: £11,307) for the J&P Pro-rata £8,138 and Scottish Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency £10,617 and the Trustees also transferred £7,280 (2021: £7,280) from the Justice and Peace Fund reserves to cover Bishops’ Conference costs relating to other Justice & Peace issues.” Philip McEachen, Finance Manager, Diocese of Paisley.
