- PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF PAISLEY
  
  God our loving Father, who sent your Son to show us the way to live fully in the Spirit, be with us while we walk together as a diocesan family, preparing for the Paisley Synod.
  
  Help us to be people who will take on the mission of passing on your word, sowing seeds of your love in the world.
  
  Send the Holy Spirit to guide us, to keep us united in purpose and to give us courage for this journey of faith.
  
  Help us in our deliberations and discussions to be aware of your presence, to listen to your voice and to discern your will for our diocese in the months and years to come.
  
  Our Lady of Paisley

- MAKING ALL THINGS NEW
  
  "Our Synod identified three big ideas to define us in the generation ahead. The first
  is that we are a people of evangelisation, who actively reach out to those who do not know Jesus, or who have left or forgotten him. The second is that we are a Church
  of lay participation, where responsibility is shared appropriately among our people and clergy. The third is we are a “synodal” community, where we make decisions together, with everyone consulted.
  In tandem with these ideas the Synod also commits us to consider how best we can use our wonderful resources of clergy and people, as well as our material and financial resources, to move from a being Church of Maintenance to a Church of Mission.
  With fewer priests and with the population shifts of the past fifty years, we must now ask: have we too many parishes for our current needs and are our parishes in the
  right places? So reflection and discussion on the kind of Church we God wills for us will also include assessment of the present configuration of our parishes and the deployment of our clergy in the light of the challenges which lie ahead.
  Our Making All Things New process asks our people to discern what are the best skins to contain this new wine of the Holy Spirit in the twenty-first century." Bishop John

  The Diocese of Paisley, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and through the patronage of Our Lady of Paisley, will work towards being a faith filled community where:
  
  There is a commitment to effective evangelisation centred on a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a life lived with faith and charity.
  
  Faith formation and active discipleship are of fundamental importance in developing the ‘Role of the Laity in the New Evangelisation’ within our parish and diocesan communities.
  
  There is dynamic and collaborative engagement among all those called through Baptism into the family of God to use their gifts and talents to build up the body of Christ in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
  
  All families feel welcome when they enter the church for liturgies, sacramental preparation or for support of any kind.
  
  Youth are valued as bringing life to the Church.
  
  There is a commitment to reach out to all of society, in particular those who feel excluded, offering witness to our belief that each person, made in the image and likeness of God, is deserving of dignity and respect.
  
  The structures of the Diocese are designed to meet the needs of the diverse communities that they serve.
  
  Each parish grows as a welcoming family of faith and each member of the parish community feels they belong and have something to contribute.
  
  Communication in all its components: the message, the medium and the language, is understood as central to the success of the church in the modern era.
  
  We actively use communication to promote the gospel message of peace and reconciliation.
