Thank you to everyone who attended our Family Fun Day & Barbecue last Sunday afternoon. I think we can safely say it was an outstanding success, and as promised, the beautiful sunny and warm weather ensured everyone had a wonderful time! There was a great atmosphere, and everyone entered into the spirit of the afternoon. A special word of thanks must go to our team of volunteers who assisted in a variety of roles, both in the preparation and at the event itself; our wonderful musicians, our face-painters, our home-bakers, and to all those who donated raffle prizes, thank you so very much indeed. See you all same time, same place next year.....!
A General Election has been called for 4 July 2024. SPUC has launched a campaign to encourage voters to protect the most vulnerable members of our society from the womb to the tomb with advanced tools at www.spuc.org.uk/valueyourvote to support you in making your pro-life vote count. Despite the staggering scale of abortion alongside growing momentum for legislation to permit assisted suicide, the Catholic Church is almost alone in recognising the gravity of the situation for society. This online tool can help you make your voice count. The next Parliament will also likely see a big push to legalise assisted suicide. It is therefore vital that we elect MPs who will oppose these threats to life. Today the Catholic Church in Great Britain and Ireland marks our annual Day for Life, established by Pope Saint John Paul II to recognise the value of human life at every stage and condition, and to draw attention to the seriousness of abortion and euthanasia and other aspects of human life deserving our consideration. In recent years, our Day for Life collection has helped fund our traditional pro-life organisations as well as supporting survivors of sexual abuse and those with addictions and caring for refugees and asylum seekers. This year’s theme, The Lord is My Shepherd, focuses on compassion and hope at the end of life, against current efforts to legalise assisted euthanasia.
