“Charity
is the cement which
binds Communities to God
and persons to one another.”
St. Vincent de Paul,
SSVP Patron
The Church throughout the world, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) and the Vincentian Family celebrate on 9th of September the feast of the Blessed Frederick Ozanam, principal founder of the SSVP, whose feast day was established by the Vatican as the date of his death (8 September) - the feast of the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

"Scotland’s 2000 SSVP volunteer members provide support and assistance to people across the country on a daily basis. Working in 300 groups, they assist people in need in the best way that they can.
SSVP Conferences (groups) respond to needs in their communities. This usually means visiting people in their homes, in hospital, hospices or in prison. For many people, this visit is all that they need. However, in meeting people in this way, SSVP volunteers get to know people. They may then go on and provide help or assistance in other ways.
Since being founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam and a group of friends, home visits have been at the core and heart of the work of SSVP members. The SSVP always works hard to respond to changing needs and has now established 'Special Works' which provide one particular service."

Since we first encountered the Covid 19 lockdown and restrictions, life has changed for many, and it is those who have little who suffer the most in these situations.
It is not always financial poverty which causes great suffering but ill-health of oneself or a loved one, the loss of a dear friend or family member and the grief and loneliness which ensues.
And no post code is exempt from this suffering.
The Society of St Vincent de Paul’s worldwide mission is to seek out and find those in need and to offer consolation in the way of practical and spiritual help.
There is a Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) conference in our parish of St Cadoc trying to do what our patron asked of us in this mission in our parish, as well as support the works carried out by our SSVP colleagues throughout the Paisley Diocese at the three SSVP Special Works Conferences (SWC), i.e. St Vincent’s Hospice SWC in Howwood, Our Lady of the Wayside SWC in Paisley (who provide meals to those in need each Friday evening) and The Holy Spirit SWC who support the work of the Holy Spirit Fathers in the care and rehabilitation of those suffering from addictions. But more of the SSVP Special Works Conferences in the parish newsletters to follow.
The St Cadoc’s SSVP Conference consists of ten active members able to assist locally when called upon to seek out and find those in need and is financed solely through the generosity of parishioners who support our works by donating regularly through our SSVP collection boxes, which can be found in both porches of the church.
Wintertime in Scotland can feel dreary for most of us with short days and long dark nights ahead, however some people suffer more than others and can become isolated in their own homes. Please help us find those who you think may benefit from practical or spiritual help from SSVP by approaching Canon Eddie Cameron or the SSVP member on duty by the SSVP collection boxes (in the porch after all weekend Masses) and telling them of your concerns for that person, or if you prefer, by calling SSVP on our mobile number 07561 640489.
We look forward to hearing from you and assure you that all information provided will be treated with utmost respect and confidentiality.
"We have been keeping the communication open with all our contacts made prior to and during the pandemic lockdowns by checking in to ask how they are doing, by dropping them a letter or card, making phone calls, dropping off shopping essentials and supporting them in times of need.
If you, or someone you know needs our support, please do not hesitate to contact us by dropping a letter to SSVP into the baskets, when available again, or through the letterbox at the Church House.
Looking forward to better times ahead for all of us, however until then we will keep you in our prayers and be available when you need to talk
to SSVP."

The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP) at St Cadoc’s Parish would like to say, “Thank You” to all
those kind parishioners and members of St Cadoc’s Golf Society who have supported the works of the society in one way or another during these long difficult months of the Covid 19 pandemic.
Your kindness and generosity have been much appreciated.
We currently have ten active SSVP members in the parish who, under normal circumstances, would provide practical and spiritual support by visiting the sick, those in need, the elderly in nursing homes
or housebound, those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, those alone or families in a crisis.
Life has been different and often challenging for many during almost twelve months now and although
the SSVP members have not been able to physically visit as they had done previously, due the Covid 19 guidelines which we all have had to follow, we are still very much active in the background within our church community.
We have been keeping the communication open with all our contacts made prior to and during the pandemic lockdowns by checking in to ask how they are doing by dropping them a letter or card, making phone calls, dropping off shopping essentials and supporting them in times of need.
We also keep them in our prayers.
If you, or someone you know needs our support, please do not hesitate to contact us by dropping a letter
to SSVP into the baskets, when available again, or through the letterbox at the Church House.
Looking forward to better times ahead for all of us, however until then we will keep you in our prayers and be available when you need to talk to SSVP.
